Due to bad weather wiping out crops of hazelnuts in Turkey (where 70% of the worlds hazelnuts are harvested), the price of much loved Nutella is set to soar. The cost of hazelnuts has already risen by 60% to £6300 per tonne from £3900 per tonne in February. This is a huge blow to the Ferrero the makers of Nutella as each 400g jar contains 50 hazelnuts. We will have to wait and see the real impact of the bad weather conditions, in the meantime we are stocking up.
