Rush Food Festival

Rush Food Festival kicks starts Rush Harbour Festival on Saturday 5th August

This is the first year of the Rush Food Festival Chef’s Theatre which will kick start a weekend of food and entertainment in the coastal town of Rush in north Co Dublin on the August bank holiday.

Rush and North County Dublin are synonymous with growing and potato production and the area is renowned for generations for producing quality fresh produce such as tomatoes, lettuce and turnips, which is mainly attributed to by the fertile soil.

Referred to as the ‘Market Garden of Ireland’ it is only natural that it should have its own food festival to showcase the wonderful produce grown in the area.  This year the chef’s theatre, a new addition to the Rush Harbour Festival, will be hosting cookery demonstrations and drink pairings showcasing the produce from the area.

The Chefs:

Chef Gary O Hanlon will headline the Chefs’ Theatre at 2.30pm on Saturday with his cookery demonstration.  Gary will be joined by Jeremy Cuevas from La Cocina Cuevas and Haldi from Haldi By Manish in Rush bringing an international flavour to the event.  Bridget O Hora from Bridey’s Wine Chats will be on hand pairing Irish wines produced by David Lleyellwn of Lusca Vineyard with food with some suggestions for summer entertainment.

Baked Potato Cook Off:

And that’s not all, stand back and watch as Rush Queens go Global with a fun Baked Potato cook-off.

It only seems fitting that for the first year of the food festival to introduce the inaugural Best Baked Potato competition in a fun cook-off between three chefs with diverse culinary backgrounds who will showcase a topping representative of their cuisine.  Think Mexican, Indian and of course Irish.  The competition will take place at 2pm and three chefs from different culinary backgrounds will showcase their national topping for the tastiest baked potato and be judged by Chef Gary O Hanlon who will choose a winner.

Many of the ingredients showcased during the demonstrations and in the competition will be supplied by local growers including Welgro cucumbers, chillies from Taylor’s of Lusk, strawberries from Sunglow, tomatoes from Kilbush Nurseries, herbs from the Garden of Eden Herbs and potatoes from Flynns who have been producing potatoes for over 100 years making this a truly a community supported event.

There is a nominal entry fee into the Chef’s Marquee to view all the completion and the demonstrations of €10.00 and you can come and go as you please for the day.
