Hens for Schools is a brilliant initiative by the Slow Food Four Rivers Group covering counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford. One of Slow Food Ireland’s biggest objectives is to teach kids about food production by teaching them how to keep hens. Slow Food has been working with schools in East Cork for the last few years, assisting with kitchen gardens and providing hens and hen houses. They are extending the initiative to the whole of the south east and are offering one school in each county the chance to win a specially commissioned hen house, hens and ongoing support from Slow Food’s experts.
