Flippin’ good Pancakes with Aldi.

With only days until the tastiest day of the year, you’ll have flippin’ good fun this Pancake Tuesday (17th February) when you pop into Aldi. Whether you’re an amateur cook or a domestic goddess, put on your apron, heat that pan and get flipping those pancakes.  Aldi have a range of Pancake Tuesday essentials, available nationwide from Thursday, 12th February.

Pancake Tuesday is the day before fasting for Lent starts, and filling up on pancakes is a tasty tradition loved throughout Ireland. Why not let the kids help out in the kitchen and rustle up some delicious delights for all of the family.

Fancy making pancakes from scratch? All of the essentials that you need to make the perfect batter are available at Aldi, and all at great value prices. Pick up a pack of Aldi’s Large Fresh Eggs €1.99 / 10 pack, Aldi’s The Pantry Plain Flour €1.29 / 2kg, Aldi’s Clonbawn Irish Fresh Milk €0.75 / 1 litre and Aldi’s Solesta Sunflower Oil €1.59 / 1 litre.  If you prefer thick, fluffy, American style pancakes, use Aldi’s Clonbawn Irish Buttermilk €0.75 / 1 litre for a taste of the USA.

Once you’ve made your batter, pour it into a heated pan – Aldi’s 24cm Frying Pan €4.49 is ideal. The versatile aluminium finish allows for even heat distribution and the bakelite handle can withstand high temperatures. With a three-layer Teflon, non-stick coating, your pancakes will be perfect and will glide from the pan to your plate. Suitable for all hobs except induction, the pan is available in orange, red, green or black.

Try this tasty recipe from Aldi:
Pancakes – Makes 8 (approx.)
Ingredients
100g The Pantry Plain Flour
1 Egg
300ml Fresh Milk
Pinch of Salt
Sunflower Oil

Method
Beat the egg into the milk with the salt. Sift the flour into a bowl, make a well in the centre and slowly whisk in the milk and egg mixture until smooth. Allow to settle for 20 minutes. Heat a little oil or butter in a frying pan. Pour enough batter in to cover the base, cook on a medium heat for 30 seconds until browned, flip and cook the other side. Repeat until all the batter is used. The batter will keep cling filmed in the fridge for 2 days, just whisk before using.
