Jette Virdi Created & Found

Not sure what to get for the foodie in your life this Christmas? Do not worry friends, we are about to save you from a world of Google pain. Meet Created + Found, the new range from superstar food stylist Jette Verdi. This range of gorgeous homeware and lifestyle products are quite possibly our favourite discovery this year, as much for their aesthetic beauty as for the message behind them. We caught up with Jette to chat about her journey to Ireland and the ethos behind her range.

Jette Virdi Food Stylist

Hi Jette! You hail from Southampton but have travelled all over the world; what made you settle in Ireland?
Well honestly, it just kind of happened, I had been at Ballymaloe and then worked on several cookbooks here and started to get work so thought  ‘why not rent a house for a year and see what happens’. Having been here three years now I love it, I’ve made an amazing group of friends and the creative community here is so collaborative and supportive. It’s been wonderful!

Can you tell us a little about your work, and what led you to create your collection?
Created + Found is really an extension of my work as a food stylist. I’ve always been obsessed with design and interiors and thought why not create my own products that I can then use in my every day work. I also saw a gap in the market to bring about a capsule collection of Irish made homeware products. You have these wonderful designers and makers around the country who are focusing on one or two products yet no one is creating a whole range over different mediums that isn’t mass produced. Being able to bring out a range that has 8 products to use around your home has been wonderful and the response has been amazing.

Your collection is created by Irish makers that are the best at what they do. How did you find them and how important was this in creating the collection?
Pure and simple instagram stalking! The makers are 100% behind this collection and why it’s such a success. To take somebodies design and style and create a work that keeps their essence but mixes it with mine is unbelievable and I just could not have done it without them. From the start, Created + Found was always something that I wanted to work with the makers on for the long term so I think that by creating a community has really helped to strengthen our ties.

group-tea-towels

What are the three key pieces of equipment that every successful home chef should have and why?
A good knife, a good wooden spoon and a good pan.

What is your go-to midweek recipe?
Dahl every time. Plenty of spices and really easy.

You have hosted supper clubs and creative nights for the last number of years, what are the five top tips you would give to any burgeoning host?
1.
As the host always be relaxed and your guests will follow suit.
2. Having dishes that are family style helps and gets chats going.
3. Keep it simple, you want to be able to enjoy it too and you won’t be able to do that if you’re popping back and forth to the kitchen every ten minutes.
4. Keep it seasonal with regards to produce
5. Make sure there’s lots of booze!

bowls-lowres

Finally, what is your favourite piece in your collection and why?
That’s like choosing your favourite child but secretly the bowls are my favourite and they’ve proven the most popular too. The shape lends itself far more to a ramen bowl slash massive cocoa pops bowl that your regular cereal bowl and they have a weighted feel which is so fab.
