Keogh’s Perfect Picnic

Tue Jun 16 2015

Summer is here and it is time to get outside into whatever sunshine we get. My number one summertime activity is having a picnic, mainly because it involves food. I love a good picnic and according to Keogh’s Farm, so do an awful lot of you too.

Keogh’s undertook a fun survey all about picnics and found that 89% of folk favour crisps as their top picnic food and you can’t beat a good auld crisp sambo. A whopping 96% saying that crisps are an integral part of the picnic experience! 91% of people indicated that good weather is their perfect picnic essential (although something that is not guaranteed in Ireland!)

Now, Keogh’s can’t do much about the weather but they can and have done a lot regarding crisps. To make sure your picnic is perfect Keogh’s have launched their crisp multipack in a cool hand-stitched potato sack. Each multipack has six packs of crisps, two packs each of their most popular flavours: Dubliner Cheese and Onion, Atlantic Sea Salt and Irish Cider Vinegar and Roast Beef and Irish Stout – my absolute weakness is the salt and vinegar flavour – although all the varieties are bursting with intense flavour.

Now, how do you think Keogh’s should launch such a perfect picnic product? Well, with a perfect picnic, of course. Keogh’s filled a lovely orchard in Dublin with everything needed for the perfect picnic: soft throws and cushions, gorgeous picnic hampers, great music and refreshing cocktails and craft beer. However, for me, a picnic is all about the food. Keogh’s had lots and lots of perfect picnic food to try, including small rolls and sandwiches filled with traditional favourites like cider-baked ham with Dubliner cheese and chutney. What made these great picnic foods were their two-bite size and the fact they weren’t over filled so were very easy to eat without getting food all over your lap. There was also a tasty Keogh’s potato salad, dressed in oil and herbs not your typically gloopy messy mayonnaise, again, perfect for a picnic. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I tucked into melt-in-the-mouth lavender shortbread biscuits, another perfect handheld picnic food. However, what surprised me the most was that I favoured the savoury crisps over the sugary biscuits. This is unheard off for such a sugar-addict.

There were barrels of crisps for us to try, in all the delicious Irish flavours and I ate them all, repeatedly. They were just so addictive. They really did go perfect with all the picnic food. Aside from the flavours available in the multipack, I sampled Atlantic Sea Salt flavour, Shamrock and Sour Cream and Sweet Chili and Irish Red Pepper. Each one had good strong well-balanced flavours, weren’t too salty and had the best satisfying crunch to them. I think I’m being converted to the savoury side!
