M&S Summer Of Flavour – A Review
Mon Jun 30 2014
Last week, the lovely people at Marks & Spencer sent us lots of food to review from their new Summer Of Flavour range. We duly invited friends and family over, gave them pieces of paper on which to write their thoughts, and fired up the barbie. Here’s what we thought.
Posh Cheese On Toast is a spread that can be smushed onto some toasted bread and flung under a grill until golden and bubbling. It’s like a Welsh Rarebit mix without the beer, heavy with Worcestershire sauce and cream, and when paired with some cherry tomatoes, absolutely delicious. It also comes with a handy lid, which keeps it fresh for ages in your fridge. Comforting, and delicious.
The Pibil Chicken and Refried Bean Firebread is amazing. It’s gooey and filling and spicy and rich and the ultimate accompaniment to drinks with the girls. I cooked ours on a low heat on our barbeque, so the bottom got all charred and yummy. It comes with a lime yoghurt dip that is zingy enough to cut through the richness of the refried beans. WIN.
These were a big hit with the kids at our party. We grilled them on the barbie until they were heated through and charred around the edges. The kids loved the Asian flavours, and the lack of spice made them a perfect handheld dinner option for small people.
YUUUUUUM. This flavour combination is right up my street, and when piled high with a homemade Asian inspired slaw, this was the midweek meal of kings. These chicken escalopes are very thin, so cook in minutes, making them perfect for midweek eating.
The Summer of Flavour range of crisps are TO DIE FOR. The Lemon Harissa ones were a giant hit with those drinking beer, while the Lightly Salted Purple and Orange Sweet Potato were devoured by the kids. A special shout out goes to the Coconut Water with Pineapple Juice, which provided much needed sustenance the morning after our BBQ; it is the most natural and delicious sports drink going.
The Chilli Cheese Posh Dogs and Posh Dog Pickle Relish were the undisputed heroes of our taste test. The Posh Dogs had just the right amount of heat and hot dog deliciousness, while the pickle relish is SO SO SO AMAZING, it warrants a review all of its own. I will be buying this by the bucket load, to smear on burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. It is BEYOND DELICIOUS.
