Now an annual celebration in the Irish foodie calendar, once again, the search is on for ‘Ireland’s Best Scone’.
This year Goodall’s have joined forces with Odlums to find the Best Scone 2015. They are appealing for the public to nominate their favourite scone. Last year, hundreds of nominations were received from people across Ireland who sent in the name of the establishments where they had tasted their ‘best scone’.
The home of ‘Ireland’s Best Scone’ could be a local deli, urban café, renowned restaurant or established hotel…in fact, all food establishments are eligible with the only requirement being that they make their own scones, and that they taste good!
Nominations open on Monday 27th April at 9am and close on Friday 8th May 2015 at 5pm. People can nominate their favourites by simply naming the scone, where it’s available and tweeting the nomination to @GoodallsIreland, using the hashtag #bestscone. On Facebook, nominations can be submitted via the Goodall’s Facebook page and there’s also the option to post your nomination to Goodall’s Ireland.
Following the nominations, ten finalists will be selected and each of their scones will be tasted by an esteemed panel of foodie judges including Catherine Leyden, Odlums brand ambassador; author of ‘Food from an Irish Garden’, Fiona Dillon; and winner of Goodall’s Best Scone 2014, Graham Herterich aka The Cupcake Bloke
The public will also be able to vote for their favourite scone at www.goodalls.ie, which will account for 50% of the vote, with the remaining 50% being awarded by the judges.
In 2014, The Cupcake Bloke who trades from the SPADE Enterprise Centre and Coppinger Row Market in Dublin was crowned as the overall winner of ‘Ireland’s Best Scone’. Reflecting on his experience, Graham Herterich aka The Cupcake Bloke adds:
“Winning Goodall’s Best Scone last year really put us on the map. We had a solid following for our savoury and sweet scones, and traded well from our stall on Coppinger Row. However when we were announced as a finalist for Best Scone, the support that we received was phenomenal!
