Bia Food Initiative

Bia Food Initiative is a brilliant offering from Bord Bia who have offered a facility where the country’s supermarkets and producers can send their surplus food to be distributed to charities who specialise in food banks. Until now, there has been no facility big enough to handle the sheer amount of food surplus, and this facility in Cork is able to receive food from Aldi, Tesco, Musgraves and Kellogg’s to name a few. This is going to revolutionise the reach that food banks in Ireland have, and is taking a great step towards helping the 600,000 people in Ireland currently living in food poverty.
