Aldi’s Irish Suppliers Scoop 22 Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards

Aldi, Ireland’s most awarded retailer, would like to congratulate its Irish suppliers who won a fantastic 22 titles in this year’s prestigious Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards, providing Aldi with its biggest awards haul yet.   Aldi’s Irish suppliers have now won 97 Blas na hÉireann Awards since 2009.

The results sees Aldi continue its reign as Ireland’s most awarded retailer. Over the last five years Aldi has won more awards than any other retailer in Ireland across the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards, the Great Taste Awards and Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards.

Aldi’s Irish suppliers won seven gold medal, seven silver medal and eight bronze medal awards in Dingle this weekend.  Gold medal winners included Aldi’s Butchers Selection Lamb Rack, produced by Irish Country Meats of Camolin, Co. Wexford, Aldi’s Mature Cheddar, produced by Carbery of Ballineen, Co. Cork and Aldi’s Specially Selected Caramelised Red Onion Relish, produced by Follain Teoranta of Macroom, Co. Cork.

Commenting, Aldi Ireland’s Group Buying Director, Finbar McCarthy said, “We are delighted that many of our Irish suppliers have tasted national success once again, with winning products including everything from traditional cheese to premium lamb and creamy yogurt to tangy marmalade.  Our buying team works hard to offer Irish products that consumers can enjoy and it is great to see these products recognised for their high quality and taste.”

Ireland’s premier food awards, the Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards celebrate the quality and imagination of the best Irish food producers.  The Awards focus solely on taste, with the winners chosen as a result of blind tastings by a team of Ireland’s top food experts.

The Blas na hÉireann National Irish Food Awards wins follow Aldi’s recent excellent showings at both the Great Taste Awards, where Aldi won 62 awards, and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards, where Aldi won 9 awards.
