The Italian Wine Sale returns to SuperValu shelves from 16th to 29th April

SuperValu has sourced a stellar selection of Italian wines to suit all tastes and budgets for its widely anticipated Italian Wine Sale, taking place in stores nationwide from 16th to 29th April. The much loved Italian Wine Sale boasts a range of historic Italian wines, along with a number of exciting new wines added to this much-loved Italian range. This Italian Wine Sale highlights the exceptional quality, selection and value available in 222 SuperValu stores nationwide. SuperValu, with the help of SuperValu Expert Wine Buyer Kevin O’Callaghan make it easy to enjoy ‘a pisa’ Italy in the comfort of your own home.

Kevin’s must try Italian wines available as part of the SuperValu Italian Wine Sale include:

Sopra Sasso Amarone, €20 – This is a super smooth luxurious wine made with sun dried grapes. With matured black cherry and spice, Amarone is truly one of the world’s greatest tasting wines.

Ricossa Barolo, €15– Made from the indigenous Nebbiolo red grape variety of the northern Piedmont region of Italy, Barolo is regarded as one of the world’s most elegant wine. Combining strong texture and mature character and yet a fresh acidity, this wine is a mouthwatering experience of black cherry and liquorice notes that feels classy from beginning to end.

Barone Montalto Rosso Ammasso, €15 – An exciting addition to SuperValu’s Italian wine offering, this wine made from partially dried grapes is an opulent but gentle wine. Candied notes and toasted hints ensure a flavourful and sensual palate mix. Great with roasted lamb.

Zaccagnini Montepulciano D’Abruzzo, €15 – New to the SuperValu Italian wine offering, this intense ruby red coloured wine with violet nuances is an intense characteristic bouquet of forest berry fruits. It is full bodied and robust and balanced, with a soft texture highlighting its wonderful oak features.

Lunetta Prosecco, €15 – Lunetta’s grapes are handpicked and vinified at Cavit’s state of the art wine facility in Trentino, northern Italy, known for producing world class sparkling wines. This prosecco offers refreshing aromas of peach and apple and is a delightful aperitif or can be enjoyed with antipasti sushi, shellfish or hors d’ouevres.

Sartori Ripasso, €10 – This smooth wine boasts matured fruit flavours and excellent depth and is the perfect pairing for any steak. Sartori is passed over the already pressed sun dried skins of Amarone wine to pick up even greater concentration of sweet black fruit flavours.

Barone Montalto Nero d’Avola Appassimento, €10 – Another new addition to SuperValu’s expanding range, this dark and intense red is full bodied and balanced in both roundness and persistence thanks to its opulent notes of candied figs and ripe fruit. This wine is the perfect accompaniment to roasted pork or deli meats.

Il Capolavoro Appassimento, €10 – New to SuperValu for the Italian Wine event, this special wine is made with grapes that are partially dried before being pressed and so is an intense deep ruby red. A fruity experience with medium body it is wonderfully intense, spicy and smooth and bursting with flavour.

Pianta Ferro Primitivo Di Manduria, €10 – This gorgeous wine from Italy’s Puglia region offers a stylish and velvety texture which washes evenly over every palate. This wine is a unique blend in that it offers a very understated but fruity taste that can be enjoyed with hearty Italian meals.

Intrigo Negroamaro Puglia, €9 – This delightful, mouth-watering wine is bursting with soft cherry fruits and is the perfect wine to enjoy with tapas, cheese and pizza.

Villa Pani Toscano Rosso, €9 – This gently perfumed, delicately fruity wine is also a new addition to SuperValu’s Italian wine selection. With a freshness and a smooth finish this is the ideal wine to enjoy with meaty pasta dishes.

Ricossa Barbera D’Asti, €9 – This enjoyable wine has a medium body and harmonious flavours with a soft texture. Its acidity is refreshing and is a great match for pizza or tapas.

Fico Grande Sangiovese Romagna, €8 – Also new to SuperValu shelves, this soft and subtle wine comes from the acclaimed Emilio Romagna region. It carries lovely fruit characteristics on the nose and in the palate with the perfect hint of spice and pepper and a long smooth texture.
