September is the real start of oyster season, and The Cliff Townhouse continues their homage to his majesty the mollusk with their fourth annual Oyster Festival. Running throughout the month of September, with a particular focus from Tuesday 8th through to Sunday 13th September, The Cliff Townhouse Oyster Festival has something for all seafood lovers.
With a splash of seafood, a dash of the drinks that perfectly match and a line-up of interesting masterclasses, plus oyster cocktails, Oyster Bar Happy Hour, and delicious and innovative oyster showcase menu specials, this year’s Oyster Festival at The Cliff Townhouse is perfectly designed for balmy September evenings.
Chef Sean Smith continues to demonstrate his ease and expertise with seafood with an intriguing selection of special oyster dishes. On the oyster menu as starters are a luscious watercress soup with poached oysters and celery leaves(€10.50), delectably savoury grilled oysters with bacon, Parmesan and Worcestershire sauce (€13.90), and a crispy oyster with marinated melon and honey pepper dressing (€13.90).
Oyster menu mains include Dover sole with a herb crust, oyster and cucumber sauce (€28.00), a classic steak and oyster pudding with roast vegetables and red wine sauce (€18) and sea trout with samphire, an oyster beignet and soy & ginger dressing (€25. The celebratory oyster menu is available alongside the regular menu in the restaurant at The Cliff Townhouse from 8th until 13th September, with some of the dishes available throughout the full month.
The oyster masterclass takes place on Thursday September 10th at 5.30 p.m. where Sean Smith gives an introduction to oysters, with a discussion on native oysters and their suppliers, how to open oysters and how to prepare a raw and a cooked oyster dish. Costing €20 which includes a glass of bubbly and a half-dozen oysters each, the informative and entertaining masterclasses at The Cliff Townhouse always sell out fast so book early!
Oyster-crazy and proud to showcase the amazing range of oysters produced around our shores, The Cliff Townhouse serves an exceptional selection of oysters from Irish waters including Michael Kelly’s famous Galway oysters, Carlingford oysters plus delicious Harty oysters from Dungarvan which are sourced just minutes away from its sister, The Cliff House Hotel.
