Apple Cake
Easy
Introduction
Apples and gentle spices give this cake an upmarket feel without any effort.
Ingredients
- Melted butter, to grease
- 125g butter, cubed
- 220g caster sugar
- 225g plain flour
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- ½ tsp mixed spice
- 425g jar apple sauce
Method
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4. Brush a round tin with melted butter to grease and line it with baking paper.
- 2. Using an electric whisk, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and spice together and fold until just combined. Add the apple sauce and fold in.
- 4. Spoon the mixture into the tin and smooth the surface. Bake for an hour or until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
- 5. Cool on a wire rack and cut into slices to serve.
