Mairin

Ingredients

  • 225g plain flour
  • 14g yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 15g butter
  • 1/2tsp sugar
  • 1/2tsp salt
  • 118ml milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour and salt.
  2. Rub in the butter and put aside on top of cooker to warm.
  3. Cream together the yeast and sugar and add to warmed milk and beaten egg. Add the liquid to the flour, beat and knead thoroughly.
  4. Cover and stand in a warm place.
  5. Allow to rise for one hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4.
  7. Form into rolls or plaits. Put onto a greased proof shelf for a further 10 minutes.
  8. Take out and brush with a beaten egg and bake for a further 15 minutes in the oven.
